Dear All,

Las week, I was very fortunate to meet Lucy and the children who celebrated Community Action day. What an inspiring group of children. Message from children- We are children does not mean we cannot do anything, we can!

They have raised funds by polishing shoes of community members and also through fishing!

They sent warm greetings to all especially Philippines friends.

Community Action Day in Mizoram, India

  • Hi Rituu, glad to hear your voice after long time. In 2011,  Here at Gan Sabra, The ACP team (children) observes the day by organizing a programme on awareness and sensitization on Human trafficking. The children finds that youth especially young girls from different locallity and villages are being lured to cities outside the state by people who promise them a job and handsome salary and finally many girls find themselves being sold or forced into prostitution. Thus the children felt the need to aware themselves and the children of Zonuam locality on this issue. Hence, organising the same programme for their friends of the community. As many as 30 children participated in this sensitization programme and also discussed on this issue. The ACP team also observed Community day by doing social work by cleaning the locality and motivating themselves and other children that cleanliness of the locality is the responsibilty of every member of the community.

THE NIGERIA CAD 2011 REPORT

Sorry that our report is coming in this late, have been very busy with alot of community work.

What happened during the CAD 2011;

  • Faith-Based Facilitaion (FBF)
  • Free Mobile HIV Counselling and Testing (MHCT)
  • SALT Visits

FBF

Faith-Based Facilitation (FBF) is a way of helping people think, talk, explore and respond to their issues in the light of faith. It results in the development of healthier people and communities who enjoy deeper relationships. Faith-Based Facilitation is not a theory or a project - it is a way of working. It's not a new idea, but it needs to practised, remembered and implemented. These training took place in two different community (Akwa Ibom and Lagos) and 10 people from the 5 selected communities were present. The training helped build deeper relationships using FBF.

MHCT

There was a 2 days free HIV Counseling and Testing in 5 community where there is influx of activities, border town between Nigeria and Cameroon e.t.c.

Here is a complete data for the Testing;

Total No Tested: 612

Total Male Tested: 415

Total Female Tested: 197

Total Tested Negative: 591

Total Tested Negative Male: 398

Total Tested Negative Female: 193

Total Tested Positive Male: 17

Total Tested Postive Female 4

Challenges

  • Denial of result
  • There were not enough tes kits
  • Demand for treatment of other ailment.

The community leaders and Local agencies expressed their supportand gratitude towards the CAD celebration and promise to be part of CAD 2012.

SALT Visits

The local facilitation team went into the community discussing issues surrounding the community. HIV/AIDS sensitization was conducted in the both Primary Health Centre, the team spoke with all the health workers. The matron shared the involvement of the centre as related to HIV Counseling and Testing and Antenatal Care.

The team visited atleast 5 schools (Acada Training Institute, Akpo, Our Lady’s Comprehensive College, Akpo, Uga Boys High School, Uga and Udoka Primary School, Akpo)  to create HIV/AIDS awareness.

We all enjoyed the CAD 2011, its helped connect community members and the Local Facilitation Team. CAD 2011 was great, but i am very sure 2011 will be greater.

Thanks

Warm Regards...............
