Organizational Setting

The International Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Coordinator position is located in Yangon, Myanmar. Under the overall direction and supervision of the UNFPA Representative and in close coordination with the Humanitarian Affairs Specialist, the International GBV Coordinator provides technical, operational and coordination support to UNFPA’s GBV programming in Myanmar.

Job Purpose

UNFPA, in its global mandate to address GBV in humanitarian crises, and as lead agency for multi-sectoral coordination of GBV under the global protection cluster, is committed to ensure that women and children, particularly girls, affected by the different humanitarian crisis, are protected and that the needs of GBV survivors are met through adequate health response, psychosocial support and proper case management.

At the national level, the Humanitarian Protection Working Group (HPWG), led by UNHCR, has initiated a coordinated response to address protection issues through the provincial Protection Working Groups (PWS). Under this coordination, a national GBV sub-sector has been established under the leadership of UNFPA, to promote a multi-sectoral coordination for GBV prevention and response, as proposed by the IASC principles. Similar arrangements will follow in Kachin and Rakhine States.

The post will provide technical support and management to the provincial GBV specialists in Rakhine and Kachin, while also leading on support to other areas affected by conflict and displacement, such as Meikhtila and the South East region, in close coordination with UNHCR, OCHA and other key relevant stakeholders.

The incumbent will lead the national GBV sub-sector under the HPWG. He/She is responsible for the implementation and coordination of UNFPA GBV programming and representation of UNFPA in relevant forums and humanitarian coordination mechanisms.

Hi Irit and members of Gender group,

This is regarding the conversation we have been having in this group on sexual assault and rape. We find that irrespective of modest dressing, age etc women are facing rape in different parts of the world. Could we collect some experiences where people/communities are taking action to address this issue? Therefore I have posted a discussion on this and invite you to share experiences and resources on what has worked? what are the successes we have had on this? Dear Rituu,

re your mail (I can't find it here , nor the video, though...only in YouTube)-
Suggesting that women are 'asking' to be abused, by wearing such and such clothes, is a terrible insolence that only men can invent.

The fact is that : very modest women are   raped ; young girls and even toddlers, who do not know right and wrong are  raped ; old women who are not even attractive are  raped. Means - women ARE raped by men, no matter what. 
Re the video itself - I don't like it at all. I do not believe making fun of the subject (even with a good intention) serves the purpose.

A Mapping of Faith-based Responses to Violence against Women and Girls in the Asia-Pacific Region


This report presents findings from a mapping initiative that aimed to capture how faith-based organizations respond to violence against women and girls in the Asia-Pacific region. As a collaborative initiative between UNFPA and the Asia-Pacific Women Faith and Development Alliance (AP-WFDA), it sought to identify examples of strategies used by faith-based organizations.

We are looking for any NGOs, non-profits and women’s organizations, which aim to help victims of domestic violence, to participate in a free, groundbreaking actionable initiative.

The Temple of Understanding, NGO, and The Business of Me, a social impact company, are looking for help from NGOs, non-profits and women’s organizations around the world, which aim to help and protect victims of domestic violence. The Temple of Understanding has had a Consultative Status with the UN Economic and Social Council for many years. As an active member of the NGO community, The Temple of Understanding has the opportunity to work on the inside of the UN to advance social justice. Each year, they have participated in the Commission on the Status of Women—this year The Business of Me joined them.

The Business of Me and The Temple of Understanding were afforded with the opportunity to host an event at this year’s CSW, during which they offered cooperating NGOs, non-profits and women’s organizations the chance to partake in a free, actionable initiative that will test the efficacy and results of The Business of Me.

The Business of Me aims to help and support victims of domestic violence by providing them with life-sufficiency skills, which includes but is not exclusive to financial literacy expertise. Most importantly however, The Business of Me creates a strong support network or community of women, in order to help victims get out and stay out of abusive relationships and create the life that they choose. While Nancy Salamone, CEO of The Business of Me, has seen the program change the lives of countless women over the course of many years, it is now time to test the efficacy and effectiveness of the program in order to help victims of abuse to the best of our ability.

We are looking for any NGOs, non-profits and women’s organizations, which aim to help victims of domestic violence, to participate in a free, groundbreaking actionable initiative.

It is necessary to not only measure the program results but to also evaluate the outcomes of The Business of Me and it’s participants. With this initiative, it will become apparent if the participants learned, if the learning changed their behavior, and if they are now safer as a consequence of the program.

The Business of Me and The State University of New York- Albany will conduct this research study.
