I facilitated SALT approach in a neighboring country; Tanzania on 18th and 19th September 2017. Two trainings were conducted in Shirati and Musoma in Tanzania. The first training was for 30 staffs of Shirati District hospital who work with terminally ill patients. They were able to learn about the SALT approach which was new to the staff. The participants confirmed that much of time is taken concentrating on the weaknesses and problems.

The second training involved representatives from 17 different organizations in the Arukah Network cluster in Tanzania. The participants then proceeded to a SALT visit experience at Jipe Moyo Center; a Catholic center for girls rehabilitation in Musoma. The members realized that when strengths are appreciated people get the motivation to do much more. The learning and transfer also take place at individual level and organization level.

The participants confirmed that SALT is sweet and transferable.

Thanks for sharing this Moses Okombo Ayany. What I found great is that you managed to inspire people who work with terminal ill people to focus on strengths. I guess this inspired them to look for valorising and appreciating the capacity of the patient, valorising and appreciating the capacity of the family and friends of the pation, valorising and appreciating the capacity of the hospital caring team.

It is encouraging that your write about the impact SALT has on the second group of SALT training participants - and more specific - the impact of the SALT visit. It underlines the importance of this step in the approach.

Keep up the good work and stay a radiant inspirator for many!

What helps in transfer of SALT?

It is the desired changes versus the challenges affecting the next village or community. The willingness to try a different approach (strength) that has changed a particular community in a different community. The eagerness to learn for the better of the community and the society for at large.
