Getting to know each other beyond our Terms of Reference and job description.

I made use of SALT here, listening to their dreams and aspirations and concerns. The exercise seemed so simple - but at the end of the evening, we had a different perspective of each other. The activity was Stimulating, we got to Appreciate each other more, , And yes, we Listened to their concerns and aspirations. and continue with a Team we can Trust.

we appreciated by understanding that our staff are humans with families, dreams and aspirations as well as concerns. We need to remember that if we are going to proceed as a team. We listened to each other. It is not always that we are together. most often we communicate virtually, leave a list of instructions and wait for reports - rather impersonal. But with the SALT we look at each other differently with understanding and appreciation.

It began as a team building exercise to know each member beyond their terms of reference and job descriptions. It was to write a Book. The first page is the Title of Book which is a title of a song that describes your life in the project. Page 2 is to write your dreams and aspirations as well as your concerns. Page 3 is to write down three things that you do in your job. and page 4 is to write three things that you which are not asked for in your TOR but you do it as it adds value to your work as a Team member.

What struck us was when a high level member of the Team and a field staff chose the same song - "Hawak Kamay" (Holding your Hand) to describe their journey in the Project. Director Jo saw it as holding hands to form a team and move forward. Luzy, our Community Development Officer, who is a member of the indigenous tribe, saw the song in a deeper and touching perspective - she saw the Project taking her and her tribe by the hand and leading them to opportunities that they never had.

Raffique,  am glad that you like our teambuilding activity.  Yes, it makes use of SALT, which I learned from the Constellation, of course! After writing the book, all books are collected and placed in a basket. One person (could be the facilitator) picks up a book and the author of the book reads it out. Then, after reading book, randomly picks a book from the basket. The author of the new book then reads out own book and process repeats,

Asking team members to write a book with each page for one component of CLCP is a novel idea, which I am going to rob and try in my team.

Our team has not so far documented except by photos, and I am sure the book strategy will help fill this lacuna.

Indebted for sharing, and thanking in advance,

Rafique

Inspiring indeed....seeing each other as human and with appreciation leads to trust and foster meaningful team spirit. (^_^)

Thanks for sharing Joy.
