One day, we had a group discussion with the idolization girls of the Santal community in the village of Kewdaha. A total of 18 adulation girls from the village were present in this discussion meeting. Then we had a dream with them and then we asked them, "You have a lot of power to do something, how will you use this power for the village?"
One of the problems in our village is: education. We see that children are playing all day long. From young to old, everyone is addicted to mobile phones. Children are not given much attention. Parents are busy with work all day long and cannot give time to their children. If this continues, the children will lag behind in their future. We see that some children are studying in class 4-5 but they still cannot pronounce or write letters well.
After conducting individual and group sessions with 18 Adolescence girls, they developed a good rapport and formed a team. We discussed this problem one day. We will give tuition to the boys and girls every day from 7 am to 9 am and
from 5 pm to 7 pm. We did not expect that 20-25 boys and girls would come to study. We feel good that we are doing something for our village. We are teaching the children and we are also learning from them.
When we first came to guide the children in the village in their studies, there were only ten of us. Gradually, more boys from the village started joining. Some of them said that earlier they could not study properly at home because most of them were illiterate. We are truly grateful to the villagers who supported us in this initiative. We would also like to thank the students from the village who came to learn from us – this experience has helped both parties. By teaching them, we have improved our own reading and teaching skills and together we are contributing to the development of our community.
To make it long-lasting, the organization started with: Bhabini Baski and Aruna Majhi went to give them some training on how to teach young children and taught them various techniques to increase interest in the class.
