Life Circles - Individual Life Competence and SALT

a Life Circle is a space where we share our dreams and individual life competence practices; we talk about SALT in our lives and about what makes us human; the circles are opened to anyone, so the 'we' goes beyond Constellation or Belcompétence; after a convivial moment of sharing the latest news and simple food that we have brought or prepared together, we sit and talk/listen at the rhythm of the talking piece circulating around the circle; these Life Circles are held once a month (every last Tuesday evening of the month) in Brussels and you are welcome :-)

In May 2014 Sureshkumar, my business associate, ex-colleague and friend, and I conducted a workshop which was titled Change Management, for the administrative heads of Regional Offices of Health Centres in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, India. These administrative heads, whom we may call managers, work for a voluntary organisation called EKAM (meaning oneness in the Sanskrit language - http://www.ekamoneness.org). This workshop was planned and designed after detailed discussions with the key persons of EKAM, Dr.Sai and Dr. Manoj, who dedicate their career to the welfare, well-being and improvisation of the quality of healthcare in the State Government hospitals and Primary Health Centres (PHCs). Dr.Sai felt the need for a feeling, attitude and approach of ownership among the managers in their work so that they promoted a similar approach among their staff. This would be reflected in better care for the patients, especially the mothers and their newborn children, reducing their mortality rate. The hospitals and Health Centres currently suffer from high infant and mother mortality because of poor diet, care and hygiene.

Suresh and I met about 15 managers in the two-day workshop, during which time, we introduced them to the approach and practice of dreaming, designing and doing the action plan (Appreciative Inquiry), believing and altering their attitude and outlook towards situations and people (Neurolinguistic Programming) and implementing and sharing their knowledge (SALT).  During the workshop, they worked on projects about their dreams for EKAM and their community. Their excitement and enthusiasm was infectious. They came up with ideas and action plans that were amazingly yet practical. We have since been receiving reports of initiatives by the managers towards making better communities in their respective regions. Happiness is the feeling for us.
